A Space of Their Own: A Garden Sensory Room for a Family
Not every client project needs to be big to make a real difference. This one, a 20ft container conversion for a UK family, was built as a dedicated sensory room for their child, designed to give a safe, calm, and comfortable space right in their own garden.
The brief
The family wanted a space specifically suited to a child with special needs, somewhere secure, sensory-friendly, and entirely their own. Rather than adapting a room inside the house, a standalone garden container gave them a self-contained space that could be tailored completely around the child's needs, separate from the rest of the home.
The fit-out
Working within a 20ft container, we insulated and fitted the space to the specification needed for safe day-to-day use, creating a calm, controlled environment suited to sensory play and relaxation. Every detail was considered with the child's safety and comfort in mind, from soft flooring and finishes to a layout that gives the family flexibility in how the space is used.
Why a container worked well here
A 20ft container conversion gave the family a space that could be fully insulated, fitted out, and installed in their garden without the disruption of an internal home renovation. It's a self-contained, secure environment, exactly the kind of controlled space that works well for sensory use, while still being part of the family's own outdoor space.
